⭐️ Gold Star means the case is on my roster. It’ll be a mini-deep dive.

✨Important note: Ever since 1978, the media has incorrectly taken it upon themselves to say that all five men were mentally unstable or mentally impaired to some capacity. However, only one of the men had been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder or mental impairment.
Even though Gary was diagnosed with schizophrenia, he kept it well-managed with medication.
Ted, Bill, and Jack Huett had mild learning delays but lived independent, functional lives. (LET me say it again: mild!!

Jack’s Life:
Jack was an Army Veteran who served as a truck driver and was honorably discharged. Jack was able to hold a job, owned a car, and was fully independent.

Gary Mathias’s Life:

✨Gary Mathias was the only member of the five with a formal psychiatric diagnosis (schizophrenia) (✨emoji= please remember this tidbit)
As for the others, it goes as follows: Bill Sterling & Jack Huett had learning delays, but they were active, held jobs, and lived routine, functioning adult lives.

In this situation, it would be better if they handled this portion of The Boy’s characteristics much more delicately and respectfully. It appears to me that they were able to function and partake in normal activities just like everyone else. This is one of the main issues I have with this case.
What we do know is that The Boys enjoyed and played basketball; they met by forming a basketball team of their own. On the night of February 24, 1978, The Boys attended a basketball game in Chico, California.

After the game was over, The Boys headed to a convenience store for snacks. They left the store and were never seen again. This launched into a full-on investigation that spawned rumors, speculation, and assumptions.

I don’t find it particularly suspicious that they chose to drive off course before heading home. It was definitely a bad decision to drive in such treacherous weather conditions. Considering the area, I think it’s probably good to strip down the mysteries of foul play.
Work with me, kids. It’s time for WEATHER MATH(?) or some shit. Five men wearing light jackets, walking on foot in a snow-covered area, right? So what happens when you are subjected to freezing temperatures? Hypothermia. Considering the area they were in, they were surrounded by dark, dangerous terrain and wildlife. So far, I haven’t seen any evidence of foul play.
No physical proof of them being stalked/followed, no signs of struggle, no blood splatter or weapons found. I think the answer lies in the coroner’s findings in their autopsies. No gunshot wounds, no knife wounds, no ligature marks such as strangulation. Nothing.
Jack’s 1969 Mercury Montego was completely undamaged, had gas, and showed zero signs of forced entry, ramming, or struggle. The physical evidence proves nature was the sole actor.
If we want to be medically correct, terminal hypothermia and cognitive collapse were the root cause of their deaths.

The Plumas:
Okay, so you’re all familiar with nature, yes? Then why is no one taking into account that their untimely deaths were due to the frozen weather, the terrain, exposure to wildlife, and other nature factors? Like, the logic? is not logical here, apparently.
A national forest overflowing with snow. What happens when we are exposed to treacherous weather?
I know this has been circulating since the day it happened, but I fear the biggest clues are:
- The weather.
- There was snow.
- Snow is cold.
- Very cold.
- Extremely cold.
- It was dark; cell phones did not exist.
If I had to venture a guess, I’d say that the five young men succumbed to the environment they were surrounded by, with no way of reaching for outside help.
They very well could have ventured into the forest to find help. The reason I say this is that there are some people who do live off the grid, and occasionally you’d find someone living somewhere secluded. Especially since there were trailers with C-rations, propane, etc., who left them there?
FROM LOOKING AT THIS CASE, IT IRONICALLY DOES NOT FOCUS ON THESE YOUNG MEN AT ALL. LIKE ZERO. WHERE ARE THE ARTICLES ABOUT THEM? (NOWHERE, APPARENTLY)
Then again, what the hell do I know? I am just a young woman with a blog.
Before I sign off, I damn sure did debunk whatever the hell is out there. Media circus. This case I gave a gold star because it needs one.
I wasn’t even here in 1978… and yet I- never mind.

Gary’s body has never been found. Maybe the reason is that he may have run deeper into the forest and ended up in an area that was blurred to the human eye; who knows.
However, for now I will just leave it at this; May “The Boys” Rest in peace. Seriously, I think it’s long overdue, and also remember that there is more than just a “chilling” mystery here.
I will mini-deep dive this. ‘Cause… whatever.
Until next time! Your fave problematic blogger, L.w.
