New 🆕 segment. These are not deep dives or anything, they are just cases that live in my mind rent free.

✨Let’s go to Washington, D.C. (circa early 2000s)✨

The disappearance of Chandra Levy:

Chandra Levy was a 24-year old woman who went missing in Washington, D.C. on May 1st. This was the last day that Chandra was seen alive. I remember the police kinda fumbling this one because they had lost some important and probably crucial information evidence from Chandra’s computer. If my memory serves me, they were able to restore it.

Chandra was a paid intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the time of her disappearance. Through this job, she met Gary Condit. Her and Gary had an affair, Gary was a married man. Now because of this tidbit, we are not gonna victim blame. We, or at least I, do not do that here.

Life is messy, people are only human so. Yes food for thought.

Eventually Chandra had vanished and wasn’t found until the very next year. Her remains were found of May 22, 2002 in Rock Creek Park.

Fun fact! My birthday is on May 22! You are so welcome for my existence. Shout out to my mom and dad for bringing me to earth.

Chandra’s skeletal remains were found. Along with the clothing she was last wearing; a sports bra, (I hate bras), sweat shirt, leggings and tennis shoes.

We have no idea how or when Chandra died, but a man named Ingmar Guandique. He had been accused in Chandra’s murder and to me it’s a bit iffy. As far as I know there wasn’t any or much indication that he was the one who killed Chandra. Then came the theories about her affair with Gary, and people were speculating that Chandra was pregnant, and had her killed because Gary couldn’t help but stick his sugar in other people’s koolaid. (We can shame Gary) But I have no idea if he is connected to this or not. He is however a central figure I’d say, so I am not gonna let him all the way off the hook.

So it’s still unsolved, no arrests were made, or at least not a proper one. We will return to Chandra’s case later.

Next stop on the tour is… Baltimore, Maryland: May 16, 2006

Rey Rivera and the mystery fall:

When ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ rebooted, the very first episode was centered around the super strange disappearance and death of Rey Rivera. He was found inside the conference room of the Belvedere Hotel. There was a hole in the rooftop supposedly where Rey had fallen into…somehow.

Excuse me ☝️

On May 16, while Rey’s wife was out of town, Rey left his home in a hurry, a friend of the couple said that Rey left in a panic. Which led Allison to cut her business short trip and figure out what happened with her husband.

Rey’s partially decomposed body was found in a conference room that was no longer in use. So how did he get there? He was in Baltimore working for a friend of his named Porter Stansbury. Rey had aspirations of becoming a playwright.

There was a cryptic message taped to the back of Rey’s computer that his brother found. There’s been mention about something concerning the free masons? Was Rey a victim of foul play? And why did he rush out of the house that day?

On May 24, 2006, a gruesome discovery was made; the lifeless, partially decomposed body of Rey Rivera. There was a hole on the rooftop and Rey somehow fell in it.

What. Like what happened on the rooftop? And also, May is my birth month this kinda thing has to stop!

So this case remains largely unresolved. It is one of those cases where you wish you knew or had the answers to. We will revisit this case soon too.

Round back to Washington:

Honorable Mention that ties back to Chandra Levy’s case is The disappearance of Joyce Chiang. An American attorney with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service who disappeared on January 9, 1999.

The evening of her disappearance, Joyce had met with several friends for move and dinner. She asked her friends to jump her off so she could go into Starbucks at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and R Street NW.

Joyce told her friend that she was going to walk the four blocks home from the coffee shop.. never made it to her apartment.

The Connection to Chandra: Both Joyce and Chandra were young, living in Washington, interning in pretty much the same career aspirations.

Then both vanished and were unfortunately found to be dead in places like parks. I am definitely coming back to this case.

I did briefly search Joyce’s case again. And from the sound of it, it would appear two men attempting to rob her.
