Hey there cosmic creatures. 💖 this post is dedicated to the life of Mitrice Richardson. This case is a particularly strange one due to the nature of it, so I will tread lightly.

The sole purpose behind ‘A Cosmic Celebration of Life’ is to remember the victims who have gone way too soon. I find life to be unfair, but it can also be extremely unfair. I don’t think death is something we will ever understand.

In this post we will take the time to celebrate and remember Mitrice Richardson for the person she was.

& This is the life of the lovely Mitrice Richardson

Early Life; 1985- 2009-Covina California

Mitrice Lavon Richardson was born on April 30th, 1985 to her mother, Latice Sutton, and her stepfather, Larry Sutton, in Covina, California.

Mitrice attended South Hills High School before earning a bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University, in Fullerton, in 2008.

Career Goals:

Mitrice worked as an executive assistant and dancer while interning for a forensic psychologist, with plans to pursue graduate studies and tech.

Who was Mitrice Richardson?

Friends, family, and colleagues described Mitrice as a vibrant, driven, and incredibly intelligent woman with a strong work ethic and diverse talents.

Mitrice was a very academic focused young woman. She graduated with honors from California State University. She was very deeply motivated by her career goals, which included plans to pursue plans to pursue education and tech.

Mitrice was a very hardworking & versatile person. She balanced multiple roles, working as an executive assistant, interning with a forensic psychologist, and working as a part-time dancer.

Mitrice was known to be very expressive and confident. She was outgoing and charismatic, she also participated in beauty pageants and embraced performing arts.

Mitrice was very warm and independent. Friends recalled her as expressive, fiercely independent, and deeply connected to her close circle of friends and family.

For this next part, I will provide the timeline of Mitrice’s final hours, what led up to her disappearance and untimely death.

Fair warning: There will be talks about mental health. I can’t say for certain what was happening with Mitrice, but we will keep this part respectable.

Disappearance & Timeline: Malibu, California; 2009:

1. September 16th, 2009: Mitrice went to a restaurant in Malibu, California called “Geoffrey’s Restaurant. Where witness noticed that Mitrice was exhibiting erratic behavior, claiming ties to Mars and she was unable to pay her $89 bill. Staff called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Arrest: Deputies impounded her vehicle containing her purse, phone, ID, and money, and took into custody at her into custody at the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

Middle-of-the Night Release- September 17th, 2009:

At 12:28 AM, Mitrice was released without her vehicle, money, phone or identification. Her mother had requested she be held safely until morning, but deputies released her on foot into Malibu Canyon.

Final Sighting– September 17th, 2009

At 6:30 AM, a resident in Monte Nido discovered Mitrice sitting in her backyard, noting that she appeared resting before leaving on foot.

Discovery of Mitrice’s Remains; August 9th, 2010;

Eleven months after Mitrice disappeared, park rangers discovered her remains in Dark Canyon, Monte Nico. Due to her body being severely decomposed, an exact cause of death could not be determined.

Final Thoughts:

This case is definitely one of those cases where you keep trying to make sense of it in your head. We don’t exactly know why Mitrice was acting odd in a restaurant. It highly unusual behavior, and I wish we knew more about it.

As far as Mitrice’s state of mind, I don’t think the Sheriff’s Department should have let Mitrice out, especially in the middle of the night without her essentials; phone, purse, keys, etc.

It seems like this case was handled wrong by law enforcement. Mitrice’s mother even asked for her daughter to remain in custody since Mitrice was not of sound mind at the time.

Unfortunately, Mitrice passed away under circumstances that have yet to be revealed.

A Letter To Mitrice, and her loved ones:

My deepest condolences for the loss of Mitrice she sounded like an all around fabulous person who was loved, successful, and intelligent. She is definitely a source of inspiration as she dabbled into many things throughout her life. I consider it as a reminder that we really can achieve great things. Mitrice I am so sorry for what happened to you ; if only law enforcement kept her in custody so that she could remain safe.

A beautiful, vibrant, and warm life led by a woman who was destined to do great things. I send out my deepest love from the bottom of my heart. I really hope that someday there will be answers, justice and peace. May we remember Mitrice before her death. 🪷
